We make it our mission to focus on every individual that walks into our gym, to help them be well, help them make and achieve goals, and laugh with them. However, especially during this time of the year, we like to shift our focus outside our four warehouse walls, to those in our community who may never set foot inside our gym.
TEAM STRONG boldly served our brothers and sisters in our community with our participation in collecting canned goods to donate to the Summerville’s Feed the ‘Ville. Before we donated this food, we packed the loads into our ruck sacks, and went for a Thanksgiving ruck through rural woodlands in Harleyville, SC, with our involvement in the Obstacle Course Racing World Championship’s Rucksgiving Project. Feeling the weight of the cans physically, helped us to realize the “weight” of carrying the burden of not being able to feed your own family. We are so thankful to be able to give to the Feed the ‘Ville project, and serve with OCRWC Rucksgiving.
In early December, we kicked off our annual Angel Tree Prison Fellowship Project, an organization we partner with to serve the children in our community by purchasing and hand-delivering gifts to their homes on behalf of their incarcerated parent. This is our third year involved with this project, and we were able to serve 34 kids, double the number we served last year! This is just one facet to this amazing program that successfully reduces recidivism and crime, breaks the cycle of incarceration, isolation, loneliness, and shame through mentoring relationships and family reunification. Children can return to school and eagerly anticipate sharing what their father or mother “gave” them for Christmas. Seeing their smiling faces was worth every hour of work and every dollar we put into this project.
We look forward to who we will become, and who we will serve in 2015! What service projects did you participate in this year? Let us know how we can help serve you!
